My 1000th Post!!

A couple months ago it dawned on me that I’d be posting my 1000th post sometime this spring. When I mentioned it in passing to Hubby, he immediately suggested that we have a party to celebrate the milestone. The more I thought about it, the more I fell in love with the idea. And just to mix things up, I decided that all the food should be purple.

If you have been reading for a while now, you know that my blog has gone through many transformations. I wish I would have kept screen shots from the various looks that Beantown Baker has had… I’ve had the current look for a few years now including the purple on the sides of my blog. Purple has always been my favorite color and it made perfect sense to include this color in the 1000th post party.

Our friends N+B brought this cute decorated bottle of champagne!

So this past Saturday, Hubby and I hosted a few of our closest friends to drink champagne, eat purple food, and just enjoy ourselves. Since I’m not a huge fan of using food coloring, I challenged myself to try to use as many naturally purple foods as I could. Once I set out to find purple foods, I was amazed at how many there were. I used a variety of purple produce including potatoes, onions, cabbage, radicchio, blackberries, blueberries, and grapes.

I will be posting recipes from the party over the next couple of days and weeks, so get ready for a plethera of purple food coming your way. Here’s what we had on the menu – and yes, there were only 10 of us and there was more than enough food. By the way, I’m horrible about remembering to take pictures during parties. So I didn’t get any pictures of the spread (hence the teaser pics of some of these items):

Another friend Fiona brought this beautiful bouquet of flowers!

The only other time I have posted about a milestone post was at my 100th post back in April of 2008. At the time I don’t think I could imagine that I’d ever make it to 1000 or how big of a part of my life this blog would become.

When I think about posting 1000 unique posts on this blog, it’s mind-boggling. Apparently I like to hear myself talk… I just can’t believe I’ve hit “Publish” 1-0-0-0 times. For anyone who cares about the numbers, my first post went up 1693 days ago. That means I’ve averaged one post every 1.6 days, or 4.1 posts per week!

And I definitely couldn’t have done it without you guys! THANK-YOU thank-you thank-you from the bottom of my heart for reading, commenting, and emailing me. Your ideas, questions, and encouragement really help to keep me going. I honestly can’t express how much I appreciate it. I hope you’re looking forward to hearing more about the purple food I featured at the party. And good luck to all the Boston Marathon runners out there today! Marathon Monday is one of my (and Hubby’s) favorite days of the year in Boston.
