Superbowl Snack Throwdown – Week 8
It’s the day after Halloween and I don’t know about you, but to me that makes it the perfect day to just sit around watching football all day. After the stress of putting together costumes and then the recovery of candy and/or beer over consumption, Hubby and I are just lying on the couch today. And it’s great. Since it’s Sunday, it’s time to review Highlowaha’s Super Bowl Snack Throwdown recipes from Kate and Lauren. This week’s secret ingredient is hamburger! As a reminder, recipes are to be judged on the following criterion: Creative use of the ingredient, most likely to be eaten first, best photograph, and reproducibility. So now, on to the recipes (be sure to click through to check out the entire recipes).
Kate made Tackling Tex Mex Bruschetta.
Lauren made Cheeseburger Ka-Bobs.
It’s amazing that Kate and Lauren came up with very similar concepts for this week. Both of them could be customized to whatever ingredients you prefer (no pickles for me!) Judging these snack throwdowns is a lot harder than I ever thought it would be. Almost every week, both recipes look great and I have such a hard time deciding between them. This week is no exception to that rule.
As far as creativity, I think both Kate and Lauren did a great job thinking outside of the box when it comes to hamburger. When it comes to ease of replicating the recipe, I’d have to go with Kate. Her recipe could be made with a variety of things that you can buy pre-made.
As far as photography goes, I have to go with Lauren this week. I absolutely love lines in photography and those rows of hamburger ka-bobs just get to me.
The final category is most likely to disappear at a football gathering. This is another tough one. I think they’d both go really quickly depending on the crowd. I happen to love guacamole and hate pickles, so personally I would go for Kate’s before Lauren’s. But I also feel like any appetizer with a stick in it seems to go super fast. Something about being able to use a toothpick to feed yourself just makes things seem easier to eat. For that reason, I have to go with Lauren for this category.
Congratulations Lauren! I can’t wait to see what you and Kate come up with next week!!
I’ve placed my vote, now it’s time for you to cast yours! Be sure to go to Highlowaha to vote for your favorite of these two recipes.
Thank you so much for your kind words and constructive criticism. I just started reading your reviews this past week because I wasn’t aware you were doing such an elaborate write up about them. I didn’t realize photography was important in your decision! My hubby brought our super awesome camera home from work and helped me get some pictures this week, and obviously it paid off. My photography skills don’t go much past trying to catch my toddlers doing something funny before they STOP doing it. Thanks for your vote this week and I look forward to your upcoming reviews!!!!
Have fun in the midwest! I’m leaving for Ohio on Tuesday…gotta love home:)
Yep Kate, photography is supposed to be one of the four categories I use to judge!!
Both of these recipes looked amazing, but I agree with the selection. The pumpkin footballs were my pick, too. I love pumpkin, and these little footballs look really tasty.
Good job, Kate.
what great treats for football season! I think both looked great.
